What is Hand Rejuvenation?
The hands are one of the most visible parts of our body, and they are impossible to hide. Just like the face and the chest, the hands are visible markers of the aging process. Loss of fat in the hand results in visible veins and tendons and a loss of youthful fullness. Chronic sun exposure results in hyperpigmentation (“sun spots”) and dry texture. The goal of hand rejuvenation is to restore lost volume and to resurface the skin to create smooth, beautiful, and youthful hands.
Who is a candidate for Hand Rejuvenation?
You may want to consider hand rejuvenation if you have concerns about:
- Loss of soft tissue volume and fat in the hand
- Visible veins and tendons in the hand
- Sun spots, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and texture in the hand
Many of the issues that affect the face and neck will affect the hands, too. It is simple and convenient to combine your hand rejuvenation therapies with your face and neck rejuvenation therapies. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Rovelo to discuss available techniques and therapies, and have them performed simultaneously for increased convenience and effect.
How is Hand Rejuvenation Performed?
Hand rejuvenation is performed utilizing a variety of techniques alone or in combination with each other. Restoration of volume can be achieved with injection of soft tissue fillers or with fat grafting. Fat grafting requires 2-3 treatments and is more invasive, however, the results are long-lasting. Skin changes including sun spots, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone and texture can be addressed with light based therapy.
Hand rejuvenation is best accomplished using a variety of techniques. During your initial consultation with Dr. Rovelo, she will examine your hands and develop a treatment plan designed to restore smoothness, evenness, and fullness to your very visible hands.
The risks of hand rejuvenation are similar to the risks of the individual therapies. Prior to your procedures, you will have a consultation with Dr.Rovelo to discuss your unique skin type and concerns, and to discuss how risks can be minimized to provide the best possible outcome.
Hand rejuvenation techniques are performed in the office and patients can go home immediately following their procedures. Effects of fat grafting and fillers will be seen immediately, although prolonged swelling may remain for 1-2 weeks. Light based therapies have minimal downtime and effects will be seen in 2 weeks. Multiple treatments are required for light based therapies, typically 4-6 treatments every 3-4 weeks. During and after treatments, continued sun protection is important to prolong and enhance your hand rejuvenation therapies.
