How is Submental Liposuction Performed?
Submental liposuction can be performed under general or local anesthesia.
Several small incisions are made under the chin and behind the ears.
Through these small incisions, suction is used to remove excess fat of the neck and jawline.
No skin is removed with this procedure, and in a well-qualified patient, small amounts of redundant skin will typically contract down on its own.
Submental liposuction can be combined with additional facial rejuvenation procedures including a facelift, necklift, brow lift, and blepharoplasty.

Submental Liposuction Risks
All surgery is associated with risks. Risks associated with submental liposuction include bleeding and hematoma (blood clot) formation.
Additional risks include scarring, asymmetry, poor aesthetic outcome, and need for revisional procedures.
Injury to facial nerves is a rare occurrence, but when it occurs, it can result in numbness and facial weakness that is frequently temporary, but can be permanent.
It is important to talk with Dr. Rovelo about the risks of your surgery and how the risks can be minimized to provide the best possible outcome.
